Former Olympic gymnast and Sky Sports presenter, Suzanne Dando is lending her support to the 5th Classic Oxfordshire Sponsored Bike Ride on Sunday 9th May for charity Against Breast Cancer, by encouraging riders to take part in the event.
Suzanne said 'There are 60 and 30 mile routes, plus a 12 mile route for families called the Gr8 Escape Family Ride, which is perfect for encouraging youngsters to be active and to raise money for a good cause. I feel passionate about the work the charity is doing to develop a vaccine against the disease and also the research they are doing into the diet and lifestyle of women with breast cancer. The more we know about it, the more we will be able to make a real difference by helping women beat the disease."
The cycle ride is now an established event, attracting riders from across the UK and is one of the most picturesque routes you can take around the County of Oxfordshire. Starting and finishing on the Harwell Campus, there is always a great atmosphere at the event and plenty of supporters and race marshals on hand to help the cyclists on the day. Refreshments and entertainment are provided at the end of the ride
Wendy Taylor Hill, Event Manager for the charity said "Last year 1,000 cyclists participated and we hope to have a similar number this year. Entries for the family ride are already higher than last year which is very encouraging. Suzanne is a great supporter of the charity and we're delighted she has agreed to promote this year's race. As a sportswoman from the world of gymnastics and former captain of the British Olympic squad in Moscow we feel she is an ideal role model for our cyclists, particularly our younger riders. We are also pleased to have received an encouraging personal message about CLOX from David Cameron."
This year the top fundraisers for the event will win a weekend for 2 at a Four Pillars Hotel or a case of fine wine. Children can win a night out at pizzeria Mama Mia, in recognition of their efforts to raise vital income to increase the survival of women with breast cancer. Places on the ride can still be booked by calling Nick on 01235 534211 or cyclists can register online at www.bike-events.co.uk
