To celebrate, he's bringing his unique and flamboyant pool skills to Plymouth, appearing for an exhibition match at Drake Circus Shopping Centre from Thursday 12 August until Saturday 14 August 2011: and he's challenging the people of Plymouth to try their luck and raise vital funds for breast cancer research!
Carl said 'I wanted to support Against Breast Cancer because of the number of people that are very close to me - including members of my family - who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. During my travels as a professional pool player I've experienced first-hand the suffering that breast cancer brings to families and friends of people with the disease as well as the individual who is fighting it. whoI believe that the charity's research work to increase survival after diagnosis, and ultimately to discover a vaccine, deserves my full support.'
World Pool Champion by the age of 21, Carl is a remarkable player. He already has an impressive fundraising track record for charity, despite being left profoundly deaf by childhood meningitis.Gordon Vallance, Director of Against Breast Cancer, said, 'Many men feel powerless when the women they care about are struck by breast cancer and although less common, men can also suffer from the disease. We are so pleased that Carl has decided to focus his tremendous talent on fundraising for us. With his touring van painted a vivid pink and our name splashed over it Carl will certainly be highly visible when he rolls into town!
'We are making real progress into understanding more about breast cancer and we hope Carl's exhibition pool matches will encourage the boys in particular to support our valuable cause.'
Carl and Charity Pool Exhibitions (a Professional Fundraising Organization) have raised over £20,000 since May this year, helping to contribute towards a target of £1m for the charity. To help him achieve his ambitious target, anyone donating a minimum amount to Against Breast Cancer through www.charitypoolexhibitions.org will be entitled to host an exhibition match featuring by Carl 'Houdini' Morris.
Carl's three hour exhibition matches feature 90 minutes of challenge frames of pool and a dazzling 45 minute session of trick shots. They are a unique way for enthusiasts and newcomers to enjoy pool, have a great evening out - and raise money for a brilliant cause.
