Against Breast Cancer was once again lucky enough to be one of the nominated charities for this year's Regis Classic Tour organised by The Ladies of Bognor Regis Motor Club which was generously sponsored for the third year by William Frost of Frosts one of the largest independent motor dealers in Sussex.
Based in East Anglia over the weekend the host hotel was the very comfortable Belstead Brook Hotel to the south west outskirts of Ipswich. The Management and staff embraced the event with excellent service and delicious food all served up with a warm welcome and a "nothing was too much trouble" attitude.
Each annual tour visits a different area of the Country, explores local, and in most cases private historic houses and gardens, museums and either a Brewery, Vineyard, Cider Farm: or in this case, the only English Whisky Distillery. The aim is to sample local produce wherever possible and learn snippets about the areas unique history, economy and famous residents!
The tour finished at Kentwell for a hot farewell buffet lunch taken in the Overcroft, giving participants chance to explore the park, rare breeds and enjoy the spring bulbs.
Each participant received a wonderful bag of local goodies generously donated by local East Anglian Companies these included: Aspall Cyder, The Silver Spoon Company, The Maldon Crystal Salt Company and Unilever - Colmans at Norwich. Additional items were also included from Tiptree Jam and Norwich company Stubbs Muggs. The organisers wish to personally thank everyone for their enthusiastic support of the event. We certainly sampled local produce in style!
Those Crews heading home then departed. Those planning to extend their weekend headed back to Belstead Brook Hotel to either put their feet up or join in the optional coach trip with to The Cliff Quay Brewery where we all enjoyed a knowledgeable and enjoyable tour of the micro brewery lead by Jeremy followed by a couple of delicious pints.
In excess of £20,000 has been raised so far, a fantastic effort by all those involved.
"The East Anglian Odyssey" has proved to be just that, said Clerk of the Course, Ali Green. "The warmth of the welcome and generous nature of our hosts throughout the weekend has knocked everyone for six! I am sure many of the crews, who live throughout the UK, will be booking a holiday or short break in East Anglia very soon, to give themselves a chance to explore the area in more depth!"
