Against Breast Cancer’s annual community event returns to Abingdon Market Square on Saturday July 12th. The event formerly known as Splash of Pink is now Paint Abingdon Pink. The local community voted for the brand-new name.
Against Breast Cancer have taken a new approach to this year’s event, working alongside local community group Grim Dark C.I.C., with the emphasis really on community! Bringing together local community groups to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.
Local people submitted the new name suggestions.. The shortlisted names were –
- Beyond the Ribbon
- Paint Abingdon Pink
- Get Your Pink On
- Abingdon Against Breast Cancer
The winner was Paint Abingdon Pink.
Paint Abingdon Pink will start at 10 am until around 3.30 pm, bringing together Abibinit, Maker Space, Grim Dark Games, Abingdon Guild of Adventurers and Ashna Dance. Tombola, crafting and a treasure hunt are just some of the activities available to keep the whole family entertained. There will be live music throughout the day, alongside a BBQ and the fabulous Fiona Frost’s Cakes. Under the museum, there will be a giant memorial canvas to add a memory for a donation. The canvas will be in the museum gallery following the event.
Against Breast Cancer will have merchandise for sale alongside a brand new “How To Get Involved” stall. You’ll be able to get all the information you need to get involved in supporting and fundraising for our charity, including the Breast Walk Ever, Recycling and Pubs In Pink. Alongside information about our wonderful research!
You can even get involved on the day by dropping off any unwanted or broken jewellery donations, including gold, silver or costume jewellery. We are also looking for unwanted foreign currency donations, whether notes or coins, along with bras for our bra recycling scheme.
Against Breast Cancer will also be at the Parkrun in the morning. We’ll be handing out flyers and pink wristbands to offer 10% off at Java Coffee. Look out for the pink shark making an appearance on the run during the day.
Expect to see the Abingdon Wookie roaming around, likewise the fantastic UK Garrison storm troopers, and the Flamazing pink flamingo who will be selling flamingo merchandise for a donation.
Flossy the camper will also be making an appearance, parked in the square and filled with ABC balloons. Guess the balloons correctly and win a fantastic prize!
