Frequently asked questions
What is an overseas charity challenge?
An overseas charity challenge is a fundraising event that pushes you to your limits in parts of the world you otherwise might not have the chance to visit. Whether you choose to take on a cycling or trekking challenge, your endurance will be pushed perhaps further than ever before. Because of this, they make ideal fundraising events, and you will find that people give more generously the harder you push yourself.
What types of overseas charity challenge are there?
We offer a wide range of cycling and trekking overseas challenges, which take place in some of the most breath-taking places in the world. For example, you can trek along the Great Wall of China or cycle to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. For a different kind of challenge altogether, the Lapland Husky Trail is an experience you will never forget. You can also choose to do an overseas run, such as the Berlin Marathon or New York City Marathon.
How much does an overseas charity challenge cost?
The majority of our overseas challenges cost between £200 and £500 (plus minimum sponsorship or self-funding). Costs cover necessities such as travel and accommodation, and ensure that your experience goes without a hitch.
Can I do a charity challenge in the UK?
Of course. Take a look at our bike rides and walks and treks pages for the challenge events that take place in this county. Such challenges include Land’s End to John O’Groats and the 3 Peaks Challenge.
How do I train for an overseas charity challenge?
It depends what kind of challenge you are doing, but whether your cycling or trekking, you will need plenty of practice before you go so you are fit enough to complete the challenge. It is best to start small with shorter distances, and gradually building up as you get closer to the challenge. For the Husky Trail, you will receive training at the start of the challenge.
What do I need for an overseas charity challenge?
Again, this depends on the nature of the challenge. For all challenges a rucksack is essential to carry all of your clothing – which should be suitable for the event – and supplies, and of course for cycling challenges you will need your own bike.
How do I fundraise for an overseas charity challenge?
When you sign up we will send you a free fundraising pack that will help get you started and we will offer you support all the step of the way. Setting up an online giving page is the easiest place to start, so your friends and family can sponsor you. You may also wish to arrange fundraising events, for example a bake sale or a quiz night, to really boost your fundraising.
