The streets of Abingdon were awash with pink and community spirit on Saturday 4th July as the local community, businesses and supporters came together for Against Breast Cancer’s annual Paint Abingdon Pink event.
The popular community event saw people of all ages enjoy a day packed with entertainment, fundraising and family fun, all in support of the charity’s vital breast cancer research.
The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of headline sponsor Taylor-Made Mobility, alongside sponsors Slade Legal and LA Care, whose commitment helped ensure the day was a great success.

The day began with the Town Cryer doing a great job in letting the Abingdon community know what was in store for the day. This was closely followed by the Town Mayor opening the event.
A fantastic programme of live performances kept visitors entertained throughout the day. The programme featuring Abingdon Rock Choir, The Storm Troopers, Strawberry Fayre Majorettes, Mr Hemmings Traditional Morris Dancers, AA Dance Academy, Abbey Brass Band, Ashnah Belly Dancers, Let’s Be Active Belly Dancers, local poet Fiona, The Undercovers, and new this year the HOT FUZZ car.
Sponsor LA Care said “We were delighted to support Against Breast Cancer’s Paint Abingdon Pink event by hosting a table to help raise both awareness and vital funds for such an important cause. It was a fantastic day, with wonderful entertainment, activities, and an incredible sense of community”.
Younger visitors were also delighted by the talents of Twistopher the Balloon Artist, who brought smiles to faces with his colourful balloon creations. Also faces lit up and were transformed by Face painter Janna.
There were lots of stalls including a raffle with lots of great prizes that were very kindly donated, a tombola, bric-a-brac, the Grim Dark Gaming Society – Science Fiction & Fantasy Gaming, Fiona Frost’s delicious cakes and many, many more….
Sponsor Slade Legal said “At Slade Legal, Against Breast Cancer is a charity that holds a place in all our hearts. Like so many others, we have witnessed the impact cancer can have on families and friends, which is why we are proud to support this incredible charity. Through our sponsorship of the Paint Abingdon Pink event, we are honoured to play a small part in helping them continue their vital work, and we hope our contribution will help to make a difference.”
We would like to say a huge congratulations and thank you to Matteo Royles who is a student at Abingdon and Witney College for his amazing creations of a new logo (above) and banner (below) for the event with both taking pride of place at this year’s Paint Abingdon Pink and will continue to be used for many years to come!!!
The Storm Troopers from The UK Garrison made a grand entrance this year to the Star Wars theme tune played by the wonderful Abbey Brass Band where they proceeded to walk around the Market Place throughout the day collecting bucket donations and having their photos taken with the Abingdon Community.
They commented saying, “The UK Garrison has been supporting Against Breast Cancer for many years, as we have local members who have either lost friends or family to cancer or themselves had breast cancer. Even on the hottest day, the team were unperturbed and happy to endure some pretty sweaty conditions, in order to support this charity. The team travelled from as the West Midlands, Cambridgeshire, Bucks and Berks to support this important cause. We hope to be able to attend again next year, thank you for having us along.”
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who came along on the day and supported us. To all the wonderful volunteers who gave up their time – without you the event would not have been possible. Also to all the fabulous entertainers and stall holders. To all our amazing sponsors Taylor-Made Mobility, LA Care and Slade Legal, to Fiona Frost and her amazing cakes, and to the UK Garrison. And a special thank you to the Paint Abingdon Pink Action Group who have worked so hard in making this year’s event such a huge success.
Thanks to the incredible support of everyone involved, this year’s Paint Abingdon Pink raised over £3,880 to help fund Against Breast Cancer’s life-saving research.
