New York City, 2025 on a crisp November morning, surrounded by the buzz of 56,000 runners and more than two million spirited spectators, Against Breast Cancer supporter Lisa took on one of the world’s most iconic races: the New York City Marathon.
From the fabulous start line on Staten Island to the vibrant finish in Central Park, Lisa tackled a course renowned for its intensity and unforgettable character. With 26.2 miles, five boroughs, five challenging bridges, and a skyline that inspires millions, it is a race that tests every aspect of a runner’s physical and mental strength yet rewards them with memories that last a lifetime.
The marathon carried Lisa over the mighty Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn. Then onto Manhattan’s electric First Avenue, into the Bronx, and finally returned to Manhattan. Each borough offered its own rhythm and own crowds, that spurred on runners and kept them going to the final mile.
What makes the New York City Marathon legendary isn’t only the course; it’s the atmosphere. As Lisa ran, the footsteps she heard weren’t just her own. They were the thunder of supportive spectators lining every street, clapping, shouting, singing, and urging her forward.
A marathon where the city doesn’t simply cheer; it lifts you
“The crowd doesn’t just support you,” Lisa said. “It feels like they’re running with you every step of the way. It’s the most electric atmosphere you could imagine.”
Lisa didn’t run just for herself; she ran for those living with breast cancer, for survivors, for families, and for the research that moves us closer to a future free from the disease. Every mile she conquered helps fund vital research and ensures support continues for those affected by breast cancer. Her achievement is a powerful reminder of what one person can do when passion meets purpose.
Her journey may have been 26.2 miles long, but the impact she made goes far beyond the finish line.
Lisa continues to support Against Breast Cancer by taking on the Chicago Marathon in 2026. You can follow Lisa’s journey here.
