We are delighted to share the exciting news that one of our Trustees, Dr Victoria Harmer, has been awarded the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Gold Award by NHS England. This prestigious honour recognises her exceptional contribution to nursing, leadership, and her enduring commitment to patient care.
The CNO Gold Award is one of the highest accolades in the nursing profession. It is presented to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, unwavering compassion, and made a significant impact on health services.
Dr Harmer is Consultant nurse (breast) and lead nurse for the breast screening and symptomatic services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She has proudly served on our Board of Trustees since 2008 and brings with her a wealth of experience. Speaking after receiving her award Vickki said, “I am delighted to be awarded the NHS London Chief Nursing Officer Gold award. Nursing is the heart of healthcare, where meaningful service is given back to society. This year I celebrate 30 years since qualifying and am incredibly proud to be a nurse. I work in the most amazing team who are incredibly supportive, kind and expert, and have the most amazing opportunities through working with a charity as brilliant as Against Breast Cancer.”
“My admiration goes to Vickki for her achievement in winning this award. She impresses in everything she touches through her enthusiasm and dedication to her profession. We count ourselves very fortunate to have her incredible knowledge and experience to call upon as a Trustee of Against Breast Cancer.”

In addition to her clinical role, Vickki has played an important role in advising the makers of some of television and radio’s most popular programmes. Her knowledge and experience has ensured breast cancer-related stories are told accurately, reflecting current treatment and experiences of breast cancer patients across the UK.
Everyone at Against Breast Cancer joins in congratulating Dr Harmer on this outstanding honour. We look forward to continuing our shared efforts to improve lives and health outcomes in the communities we serve.
“We are incredibly proud of Vickki, this is such a well-deserved recognition of her achievements. Her compassion, clarity of vision, and wealth of experience make her an invaluable member of our Board.”
