We've teamed up with BCR and we are asking our supporters to donate their unwanted bras to help the cause....
We're asking the UK's women to use a 'bra bank' to donate their unwanted bras to support our vital research work. BCR Textiles' exciting project will help small businesses in Africa, prevent valuable textiles being dumped in landfill and help to fund research work towards creating a vaccine against breast cancer.
Our fondness for cheap, throwaway fashions means that we now throw away more clothes than ever. Textiles are the fastest-growing waste product in the UK, and around three-quarters of the two million tonnes of clothes we buy annually are destined for the local landfill, where modern materials can take decades to disappear, doing nothing for anyone.
But unwanted underwear deposited at a Bra Bank will be whisked away to start a new life on the other side of the world, where traders support their families selling textiles locally. Bras that are beyond redemption are dismantled and disposed of properly.
BCR Textiles are donating £1,000 for every ton of textiles they collect. That's only 9,000 bras and with over 30 million women in the UK this could really make a difference.
