Claire Robertson is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition at Westminster University, she is our scientific right-hand person, an expert in Diet and Epidemiology and is assisting with our DietCompLyf study. She also understands how important fundraising is to ensure this vital research continues.
So when her husband, Scott, offered to 'do Movember' last year, how could she possibly refuse?
"When Claire started working with Miriam and the team on the DietCompLyf study, it was fantastic to look at how much enjoyment and inspiration she was getting from her work. The project, and what the team are attempting to do, is close to everyone's heart.
Breast cancer has affected almost everyone I know in some way, and it has personally affected both sides of our family. I had always wanted to grow a moustache, just to see how it'd look (see for yourself, pretty dashing!!). Given the success and public image associated with 'Movember', I finally had a reason to encourage Claire to let me give it a go - fund raising for Against Breast Cancer.
On several occasions, I would quite cheerfully have shaved the whole thing off, but we had some generous and really positive reactions from friends and family: even my brother in Australia adding £20 to the charity pot... My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who contributed. I know Miriam, Claire and the team will make every penny count!"
Scott raised a fantastic £500 during his Movember and finished it by treating himself to a luxury wet shave to say goodbye to his 'mo.
