In March 2026, Against Breast Cancer was proudly represented by a remarkable trio of runners who took on the Tokyo Marathon. More than 38,000 participants filled the vibrant streets of Japan’s capital. Among them, each of our runners carried deeply personal motivations that pushed them through every mile.
Izzy described the experience as “an incredible and emotional day”, sharing how the atmosphere, the crowds and the sheer scale of Tokyo left her in awe. Having seen breast cancer impact her mum, her nan and close friends, she said that running for a cause so meaningful to her was “truly special.” Her words capture the spirit that defined the team’s journey, a tribute to loved ones lost and those still fighting.
This year’s event also marked a significant milestone for Jamie Botten, whose mission has inspired supporters around the world. Jamie is undertaking an extraordinary challenge: running 29 marathons in memory of his sister, Leonie, who tragically passed away from breast cancer at the age of 29. Completing the 2026 Tokyo Marathon brings him one step closer to honouring her legacy in an exceptional way.

Reflecting on running alongside Jamie, Izzy said it was “an honour to support him on his journey.” When the race became tough, she recorded a short video message for a friend undergoing chemotherapy. It was an act that reminded her exactly why she was there. In that moment, she said, the miles felt small compared to what so many face every day, giving her the strength to keep going.
The Tokyo Marathon, renowned for its electric atmosphere and endlessly supportive crowds, provided an unforgettable backdrop for the team’s efforts. They embraced the city’s energy, its landmarks and its people, all while raising vital funds for research focused on earlier diagnosis, improved treatments and a future free from breast cancer.
To every runner, supporter, and donor, thank you. Your passion and generosity made this marathon a moment to remember. Your efforts are helping move us all one step closer to a world without breast cancer.
