The streets of East London were once again buzzing with energy as Team ABC took on the 2026 Hackney Half Marathon. With incredible crowd support, fantastic atmosphere and plenty of determination, our runners crossed the finish line knowing they had helped support Against Breast Cancer’s vital research.
Here are a couple of inspiring stories from some of our incredible supporters:
Running for a Cause Close to Home
For Maddy Whitting (above, centre), taking part in the Hackney Half Marathon was about much more than completing 13.1 miles.
“I recently took part in the Hackney Half Marathon in support of Against Breast Cancer. I only began running last year.
“Three years ago, I completed a half marathon for a similar cause, but I walked the distance. This time, after months of training, I was proud to run the full course.
“The challenge meant a lot more to me than simply getting across the finish line. I signed up in support of my mum, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. Following her diagnosis, she underwent two surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Thanks to the vital research funded by organisations such as Against Breast Cancer, she has now reached the incredible milestone of five years cancer free.
“Hackney was a fantastic event with an amazing atmosphere and supporters cheering along the entire route. I was also lucky enough to run alongside two friends who were also fundraising for Against Breast Cancer.
“It was a privilege to take part and raise money for a cause that means so much to me and my family.”
Maddy’s story is a wonderful reminder of why research is so important and the difference it can make to families affected by breast cancer.
A Personal Best in Hackney

“I have been running the Hackney Half since 2018 after being encouraged to do so by my daughter. This year I trained quite hard despite being on holiday in the two weeks leading up to it. I thoroughly enjoyed the event from my arrival, right through to finishing with a PB!”
Achieving a personal best is always a special moment, and Kevin’s dedication and commitment certainly paid off on race day.
Thank You Team ABC
A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who took part in the Hackney Half Marathon 2026 in support of Against Breast Cancer. Every mile run and every pound raised helps fund our pioneering research to prevent secondary spread, improve treatments and ultimately save lives.
