The 45th anniversary of the London Marathon saw 12 charity place runners and 8 own place runners take on the 26.2-mile challenge for Against Breast Cancer.
At the iconic event, 56,640 people passed the finish line. This is a new world record for the most finishers in a marathon, stealing the title from the TCS New York City Marathon in 2024.
Eager supporters lined the streets cheering on runners every step of the way. That was despite the surprisingly searing heat, peaking at 21 degrees.
The ABC team waited at the finish line in St James Park to welcome in runners. They were treated to a well-deserved massage from volunteer massager Ryan as well as some much-needed refreshments.
“Throughout the marathon training and fundraising, ABC has been there to support me. From the initial meeting to the WhatsApp group, it made the process feel much more of a team effort than individual. Glad to be able to help with the sponsorship to help with their amazing work.”
Geraint Roberts, Team ABC
Team ABC has raised over £60,000 in the London Marathon this year. They have put months of hard work into training and fundraising, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support.
“Supporting the work that ABC does was a no brainer for me over the past year. I learned about an amazing organization, while also educating my peers in the States about ABC. Running the marathon in honor of my family and friends with breast cancer, and as someone with high risk myself, was transformative for me – I knew I could tackle the marathon in honor of all of their journeys. The last two months of my training, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and running for ABC became even more powerful for me. This was the greatest, most life-changing experience.”
Sara O’Neill, Team ABC
The incredible fundraising achieved from this year’s team will go towards our many research projects into detection, prevention and treatment of secondary spread breast cancer, making a real difference to the work we are doing at the charity.
“Our 2025 London Marathon team really pulled it out of the bag with fundraising this year, a small but mighty team that remained dedicated all the way to the finish line. We truly couldn’t do the work we do without our incredible supporters and fundraisers.”
Amber Griffith, Sports and Community Manager.
