We’re delighted to introduce our new newsletter, Together. Bringing you the latest news and developments from our research team, inspirational supporter stories and practical ideas for you to get involved.
This issue, we’re shining a light on the research projects we support and introducing some of the talented scientists whose innovative research we have been able to fund investigating the prevention, earlier detection and treatment of secondary spread breast cancer earlier and more effectively than ever.
We have a long held commitment to supporting early years researchers, encouraging new ideas and helping turn scientific discoveries into meaningful advances for people affected by breast cancer. And in this issue we discuss how we’re giving them the tools to increase our understanding of breast cancer, by launching our new biobank, the largest of it’s kind in the UK.
Supporting the next generation of research
The Against Breast Cancer biobank was made possible by our Co-Founder, Dr Anthony Leathem who sadly passed away this year. His vision led to over 3000 women, each living with a diagnosis, from across the UK to agreeing to take part in his clinical study – for a period of five years. The samples and accompanying data collected will now be available to a new generation of scientists asking the questions ‘What diet and lifestyle choices affect the risk of breast cancer occurrence?’ and ‘What risk factors can be identified early to assist treatment selection to enable the best outcomes for patients?’
As we celebrate its launch, we also recognise the lasting contribution both he, and another of our longest supporters Jeanne Chattoe leave behind. The biobank represents an important step in supporting scientific discovery and creating opportunities for researchers to deepen their understanding of breast cancer.
We hope it will continue to play a significant role in enabling future research projects and help scientists pursue new avenues of investigation for the benefit of patients.
Stay connected with our progress
Together also features some of the many people who continue to make all of this possible. We celebrate their achievements and ensure that everyone who supports our research can see the very real progress we are making, together.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to sharing more research news, scientist profiles and important developments with you as our work continues.
Together, we will continue to advance breast cancer research and together we will achieve our goal, a future free from breast cancer.
